Presidential Candidate of Labour Party (LP) in the 2023 General Elections, Mr  Peter Obi had donated sum of N10million to the University on the Niger (UNINIGER) Umunya, Anambra State.

Obi made the donation at a two-day orientation course for the institution's newly admitted students following its recent formal commencement of academic and administrative activities.

The former governor of Anambra State who was on a visit to the Iyi-Enu Mission Teaching Hospital take-off campus of the institution said the donation was for further development of the institution.

He expressed satisfaction over the pace of work going on in the newly created university.

Receiving the N10million cheque on behalf of the university, Bishop on the Niger, Rt Rev Dr Owen Nwokolo appreciated Obi's magnanimity and special love he had for the things of God and education in particular.

He acknowledged the ex-governor's numerous philanthropies to the diocese and humanity, praying for God's blessings upon him, his career and family.

Earlier, Vice Chancellor of the university, Ven. Prof Chinedu Nebo said the institution valued character over anything else, encouraging the students not to relent in their various disciplines in the school.

Nebo, former Minister of Power and Vice Chancellor, University of Nigeria, Nsukka, respectively, said the intention of the university was not for students to swell the job hunters' market upon graduation, but to produce students with entrepreneurial mindset.

"The uniqueness of our university stems, first, from the fact that the university is a faith-based institution. Second, it is an entrepreneurial university built on solid principle of entrepreneurship, because we intend to produce students who have an entrepreneurial mindset.

"It is a university that values character over anything else. This is because learning without character is like acquiring knowledge without wisdom.

"In the university, we want to train students that are very responsible human beings who will excel in every walk of life. Our aim is not to swell the job hunters' market when the students graduate," he said.
