Robbers shoot man, collect his handset in Onitsha

Dare devil armed robbers numbering about five, and riding on a tricycle, on Sunday, along Old market road Onitsha, Anambra State, trailed a man riding on an exortic car, and tried to double cross him up to the Broadway Cinema axis and the man parked his car, pretending to be answering to a call.

Immediately they rushed to him and ordered him to hand over his phone to them and as he hesitated which resulted in minor arguements, he started running and was shot on the leg by the robbers and he felt down

Believing that he has been killed, sympathisers rushed to him and took him to an undisclosed  nearby  hospital where he is said to be  recuperating .

Contacted, the Onitsha Central Divisional Police Officer, DPO, Mr. Ifeanyi Ibru, (DSP), while confirming the incident said that the victim was not killed as alleged.

According to him the robbers who were riding on a tricycle, only shot him on his leg and collected his phone and left as quickly as they came.

"It was when they shot him on the leg  that he fell and some people believed that he was dead. So journalists should cross check their reports before filing as the relations of the victim are presently in my station lodging a report on what happened.

He dismissed with the wave of the hand, the report that the victim has died, pointing out that he is recuperating in the hospital  where he was taken to.
