No fewer than 72 indigent people that included orphans, have been empowered by the traditional ruler of Alor, Idemili South Local Government Area, Anambra State, Igwe Mark Anthony Okonkwo, to better their living condition especially at this period of economic and political quagmire.

The monarch made this disclosure to newsmen in his palace while thanking God and the people of the community for the conduct of a peaceful election after about 15 years that peace eluded the community.

He said that," I have empowered 72 indigent people that included, orphans, with tricycles, built houses for them, paid school fees (scholarship) for them, and gave them bags of rice. I did this through my foundation, 'Igwe Elibe Foundation," and a Catholic Priest is the coordinator for the foundation.

"Those who are beneficiaries of the scholarship scheme are in primary, post primary and tertiary institutions. I have also started businesses for many people, and after graduation of the students on scholarship, I offer jobs to them. Scores of them have graduated and those who learnt trade are on their own now and they are doing very well.

"I also built St Charles Catholic Church Alor, help in procurement of land for the Rev. Fr's house and also supported Anglican church to move forward," he stated

On the town union election that produced Chief Emmanuel Ojukwu, as the new President General, PG, of the community, Igwe Okonkwo, paid glowing tribute to the Hon. Minister of Labour and Employment, Sen. Chris Nwabueze Ngige, electoral committee and the people in the community for the smooth conduct of the election.

"What we have is concensus executive, an election which produced the new town union executive led by Chief Ojukwu. Ojukwu is a nice man who built so many houses for indigent people of Alor. We all agreed he should be our PG.

"I am the patron of the town union according to the 1992 constitution and the amended 2011 constitution and have been on the throne as Alor monarch for nine years now. So I am the father of all that contested the election and the entire people of Alor. We shall all work towards taking the community to the next level," Igwe stated.
