The Anambra State chairman of Civil Liberties Organization, CLO, Evangelist comrade Vincent Ezekwueme, Friday in Awka, state capital , demanded that former governor of the state, late Chief Pius Chukwuemeka Ezeife, be accorded a state burial having served the state meritoriously.
He appealed to Governor Charles Soludo and Ohaneze Ndigbo to accord befitting burial to the former governor Ezeife, in appreciation of his selfless services and sacrifices towards socio-economic and political development of Anambra State, Southeast and Nigeria .
In a press release he issued with his secretary, comrade Chidi Mbah, to newsmen tagged, "let us give honour to whom honour is due" the organization described Ezeife as patriotic, prudent, selfless, transparent servant leader with impeccable character and integrity.
The duo recalled that he was in the forefront in agitation for socio-economic justice for Southeast, election of Nigeria President of Igbo extraction, creation of additional state for southeast, unconditional release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, end to Monday sit-at-home home, improved security and strict implementations of Gowon's post war three R, Reconciliation,Reconstruction and Rehabilitation and constitution of Southeast Development Commission.
"As governor he was prudent, transparent, patriotic, selfless, humble and contented. As permanent secretary he has unblemished track records and as Presidential Adviser he told the president out of patriotism what he needed to know and did.
"He laid the foundation of new Anambra State, introduced think home philosophy and weekly town hall meeting with cross sections of citizens. He left huge amount of money in government coffers while leaving office. He played indispensable roles before, during and after November 2021 governorship election and ensured that people's votes counted.
"He also mobilized the people of Southeast and beyond to participate actively during last year general election. Pertinently, the apogee of his patriotism and love for his people when he declined to celebrate his 85th birthday due to incarceration of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and inability to actualize Nigeria President of Igbo extraction.
"Okwadike was voice for the voiceless, detribalized, always stand for what is right, fair, just and credible regardless of the consequences. This is appropriate time for government and people of Anambra, Southeast and Ohanaeze to reciprocate, sacrifice and render selfless services to Chief Dr.Pius Chukwuemeka Ezeife," they pleaded.
CLO equally called on both Federal and Anambra state governments to immortalize him even as they pleaded to National Assembly to out of patriotism expedite actions towards passage of a bill for an act establishing Southeast Development Commission, as greatest and best tribute to Late Harvard trained economist and political icon, Chief Ezeife.
