The Chairman Idemili South Local Government Area (ISLGA), Hon. Mrs Amaka Obi(Iyom Ife-Abata) has promised to sponsor free Skill Acquisition cum Empowerment program for persons with disability in the 3rd batch of the ongoing scheme in the LGA.

Mrs Amaka Obi made the promise when she organized a one day symposium at ISLGA Secretariat,Ojoto titled ' There is Ability in Disability' for a the disabled under the auspices of Joint National  Association of Persons(JONAPWD) Idemili South chapter saying that there is ability in disability.


Mrs Obi who was flanked by ISLGA councilors and other Stakeholders assured that her administration will give attention to people with special needs.

She encouraged persons with disability to see themselves as specially created by God, adding that they are as precious to God as other people and should not feel inferior to anyone. 


Mrs. Obi urged them to participate in the ongoing skills acquisition training in the council secretariat, so that they will be self-reliant and employers of labour saying she devout a huge quota for Persons Living with Disability in the forthcoming 3rd Batch Skill acquisition program.

The State Chairman of Joint National Association Of Persons With Disabilities (JONAPWD), Anambra State Chapter, Comrade Ugochukwu Okeke noted that Government policies and actions have given persons with disability a right to pertake in every aspect of live and have access to services that will better their lot, as well as ensuring PWDs participation in the decision making process that will affect their lives.


He commended Hon Amaka Obi for promoting and advocating equitable access to public service and for the symposium to support persons with disabilities impairment as well as building their capacities.

According to, Lolo Adaife Mary Eruchalu said that disability obstacle for success while delivering a message on how the disabled amongst the society can overcome disability barriers and live better life and happy life".

Lolo Adaife Eruchalu, expressed gratitude to the Hon Amaka Obi for organizing the programme while soliciting support of the State Government inorder to give a more better life to person's with disabilities.

The Head of Department on Education and Social Development Idemili South Local Government, Mrs Chukwudozie Ebele, who said the symposium signified inclusion and equal access, charged the PWDs not to allow anyone to look down on them irrespective of the circumstances but rather to put their skills and talents to fruition in their endeavours while commending Hon Amaka Obi for the gesture offered to PWDs.

Moreover, Dr Nkem Okeke appreciated the  Chairman, Mrs. Obi for the workshop and for approving to train persons with disabilities on the 3rd batch of the skills acquisition training for persons with disabilities saying that Amaka Obi has set the pace and hence her commitment to leadership earned her the position as the “Best T.C chairman in Anambra State”. 

 Dr Nkem Okeke further described Hon Amaka Obi as an individual who is very committed and passionate to leadership while encouraging person's with disabilities not be depressed but to be thankful to God.

Highlight of the programme include the presentation of a handmade bag produced by visually impaired Comrade Nwachukwu Duru

Other dignitaries in attendance at the symposium include Comrade Nwonokwara Ncheta, State women leader, Comrade Ibeneme Obinna C. Local Government leader, Comrade Kenneth Akobi, Secretary, Comr Ugochukwu Okeke, Comrade Simbad Ufondu, Chief Eruchalu (iche Ugochinyerenwata) among others.
