Anambra Community Igweship crisis : Igwe-elect drag to court

As the Igweship crisis rocking Umuona community, Aguata Local Government Area, Anambra State, deepens, the Igwe-elect of the community, Sunday Ezeofor, (defendant), has been dragged to an Aguata High court by Concerned Citizens of the community challenging his election.

Two other persons dragged along side the Igwe-elect were, Kenneth Okoli and Engineer Anthony Muobike, (defendants to the suit).

In the suit No. AG/85, the plaintiffs include Chiefs, Joreme Umeh, Nze Fidelis Nwankwor, Paulinus Okoyeume (Ezeugo), Marcelinus Sunday Akaneme, comrade Chukwuebuka Okafor, and Mr. Madueke Nwankwo.

Among the reliefs they prayed for include, a declaration that in accordance with the constitution of the community, Chief Humphrey O. Ejesieme, has not been deposed as the person elected by Umuona community to occupy the office of the Igwe of Umuona created by and under the constitution of Umuona.

A declaration that the purported election of Sunday Ezeofor as Igwe of Umuona violates the constitution of Umuona and is null, void and of no effect whatsoever and an order setting aside the purported election of Sunday Ezeofor as the Igwe-elect of Umuona.

Also sought for were, an injunction restraining Sunday Ezeofor, from parading himself as an Igwe-elect of Umuona whether in Umuona or elsewhere and an injunction restraining him from presenting himself or offering himself to be presented for recognition by the Anambra State Government as the Igwe of Umuona community.
