Anambra Assembly: ASMATA PG, others react
By Chinwe Nwacha, Onitsha
Reactions have continued to trail the Anambra State House of Assembly election held last weekend with the latest coming from the President General, PG, of Anambra State Markets Amalgamated Traders' Association, ASMATA, Chief Humphrey Anuna, who thanked God that All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, eventually got majority of the lawmakers .
According to him, " we expected to get 30/30 in the State House of Assembly for APGA, but thank God that we were able to make it this far. I am happy with the election. I am happy that APGA still pulls weight that it is still in charge.
"We thank those that guarded the polling units. We have to join hands together to move the State forward. APGA won in all polling units in my town and the local Government Area.
"I am happy also that APGA is still in control in the State and I thank God that Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo made it possible by creating peaceful environment for the election.
"The election was devoid of thuggery, ballot box snatching, killings, among others, and I call on everybody to join hands in moving the State to the next level," he pleaded.
Reacting, the chairman of Sokoto market, Onitsha, Chief Emeka Mbachu, said that he was very happy with the victory of APGA, recalling that he went from yard to yard after the day's business, to campaign on the need for continuity of APGA in the House of Assembly.
"We are all Obidient because Labour Party is about a mass movement to change the old order. It is not about Peter Obi. After we did that we have to come home and then vote for our own APGA. That was what I told them for Governor Soludo to focus on the infrastructural development of the State without hindrance," he hinted.
In his own contribution, the chairman of Ochanja Central market, Chief Bonaventure Muo, said that he was happy that his campaign rally and hosting for APGA faithful both in the market and in his Agulu Uzoigbo country home yielded dividends as APGA eventually won in his constituency and that State House of Assembly.
"I explained to them on the need to vote for APGA because the Governor has come to better the welfare of the people. Just less than a year he was able to fix the roads and restored peace in both markets and in the State. Having majority of APGA members will spur him to do more as there will not be hindrance," he affirmed.
Comrade Peter Okala, secretary of ASMATA Conflict Reconciliation Committee, thanked traders, residents of the State, Governor Soludo and ASMATA PG for their efforts in ensuring APGA victory.
He paid glowing tribute to the ASMATA PG for his campaign rallies despite being humiliated in some areas where the people threw pebbles at him and his campaign train for campaigning for APGA.
