ASMATA PG, exco members ends 2 day APGA campaign tour

A two-day zonal campaign tour by Anambra State Amalgamated Traders' Association, ASMATA, to sensitise the electorate and canvass for votes on behalf of all All Progressive Grand Alliance, APGA, candidates, ended Thursday.

The campaign tour, led by the ASMATA President General, PG, Chief Humphrey Anuna, commenced barely five days after ASMATA held the mother of all rallies on behalf of all APGA candidates at Rojenny Stadium Oba, Idemili South Local Government Area.

It was gathered that the campaign train that composed of ASMATA executives, market chairmen, secretaries and stakeholders, converged at ASMATA secretariat  along Modebe road, during the two-day campaign tour from where they took off.

Their first port of call on the first day (Wednesday), was Nnewi North and South Zones, where they canvassed for votes at Fairly Used  Machine section, Nkwo Nnewi.

Expressing satisfaction with the campaign tour, Mr. Raymond Onwuatuegwu, Nnewi North and South Zonal chairman, stated that his happiness knew no bounds and prayed God to protect the campaign train.

The team later headed to where Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo came for campaign rally of all the APGA candidates, at Nkwo Nnewi, near Nwanyi Imo Bus stop

They reportedly left Nnewi for Aguata zone where they met with, Mr. Chiedozie Ezeigwe, the Aguata Zonal Chairman, at Nkwo Igbo-ukwu, and were welcomed also by Mr. Uchenna Umennoli, Chairman of Igbo-ukwu market.

Speaking, Christopher Ojianya, chairman of Umunze Timber and Orumba South Co-ordinator, said that markets have woken up from slumber because of Chief Humphrey Anuna, the ASMATA PG, and described him as 'Onapuru Agu onya n'onu''.

According to him, abinitio traders have no person to speak on their behalf but today Anuna has changed the game as traders now go for their right and recognized in government.

However, the team left for Onitsha Main market In Onitsha North and South Zones and was received by the chairman.

Speaking, the PG advised the chairman to install light and renovate the White House for the betterment of people in the secretariat adding that they are not in purgatory.

In his response, the market chairman pledged to make the secretariat to wear a new face adding that the  present cashless policy, was a thorn on their fresh as it is an ill wind that blows nobody good.

He explained further that on assumption of office there were no chairs but he made efforts to construct chairs now scattered  all over the secretariat and other things he did, pledging not to relent in the infrastructural development of the market .

At Idemili the zonal chairman,  Chief Emmanuel Obiagwu, who was the former chairman of Old motor parts, Mgbuka Obosi, welcomed the campaign train and advised the PG to continue with his good work, stating that he has uplifted  the traders and raised them from their slumber and restore peace which eluded the markets.

The chairman expressed satisfaction with the PG's leadership and pledged  that traders would give him massive support even as he lamented that bad leadership affects most traders because some market  leaders are use some traders to destroy markets.

He named three groups that make up government to include, civil servants, church and traders pointing out that Governor Soludo is God-sent to curtail the problems of the traders and urged the traders to support the governor to move the state forward.

In his response, the PG gave all the chairmen the lists of all the wards and polling units that fall within their zones, stating that traders that fall within that zone should  participate fully by voting for all the APGA candidates, and presented  them with exercise books to make sure they write down all the names of traders that participated, stressing that any polling unit that wins the election will receive a token from ASMATAS.

He however warned that any ward that who  fails, the chairman handling that zone will be sanctioned as it means that he is not competent in his work, adding that they should vote wisely.

He told all the chairmen that traders are politicians and want to show the government that they exit, stating that in the next political dispensation every constituency should bring four traders that will contest for House of Assembly, which will be sponsored by ASMATAS, after being screened.
